Figure 6: Average Assets of FDIC-Insured Commercial Banks

Figure 6 is a graphic description of the average asset size of FDIC-insured commercial banks from 1987 through 2003. In 1987, the average asset size of an FDIC-insured commercial bank was approximately $218 million. The graph shows that the average asset size has steadily increased each year and by the end of 2003, the average asset size was over $978 million.
