Figure 5: Assets of FDIC-Insured Commercial Banks from 1980 to 2003

Figure 5 is a graphic description of total assets at FDIC-insured banks from 1980 through 2003. In 1980, assets at FDIC-insured banks totaled a little under $2 trillion. Since then assets have increased each year and by the end of 2003, total assets were in excess of $7.6 trillion.
